Paul Barbera - Where They Create
Report
―
Paul Barbera is an interior-based photographer born in Melbourne Australia. Over the last couple of decades Paul has done numerous editorial, commercial and personal projects and has made quite a name for himself working with various clients like, Nike, Coca-Cola and Ikea.
During a specific afternoon whilst consistently traveling between Europe and Australia, Paul visited the studio of one of his friends and immediately discovered his true photographic love. A new project was born. He started the blog Where They Create, giving visitors an impressive view behind the scenes in a selection of creative studios visited during his travels. While the deep and softly contrasting photographs are surprisingly different than his commercial work, Paul has an outstanding eye for details, shadows and angles. Inevitably, the blogs popularity grew over time and it was only obvious to release a book filled with his work.
A selection of 32 studio’s was made, including the likes of Wallpaper* Magazine, ACNE Studio’s and Kinfolk Magazine. Counting an impressive 288 pages, this must-have piece of inspiration is published by FRAME and is available via bookstores throughout Australia, Europe, the U.S.A. and Canada.
I picked this book up a few weeks ago and was absolutely amazed by not only it’s photographs, but also the intriguing interviews by Alexandra Onderwater that add an insightful layer of written words.
