I have a real love-on going for Batten right now- particularly for the Warm-Up Fleece in red, which led me to put together this made in (or at least very much inspired by, seeing as Ebbets doesn't actually produce in New York) New York kit. The Batten warm-up fleece is a solid piece, the contrast pocket a nice feature, as is the double zip and the pure calibre of the fleece itself. I really like the red not only as it's a great standout piece on its own, but it will also give a nice bit of color to any kit you'll be putting together moving into winter. The warm-up fleece is inspired by fleece jackets from the 1970s, built to withstand a cold wind on the way to the beach, keeping with their surf inspiration. Aside from the beach, it'll also look great layered under a shell, keeping the wind and chills out while it'll also do well paired over a number of different shirting options.
I've paired it with a well made t-shirt from Left Field NYC, another New York based company made in a 100% ring-spun cotton. The shirt has a regular fit, a straight cut hem, and contrast sleeves and collar. Left Field NYC has quickly become known for the quality and durability of their garments, which means you benefit from their attention to detail with each and every garment. The Climbers pant from Outlier, also crafted in New York, will pair well with both the shirt and jacket, able to put up with pretty much anything you can throw at them. The Climbers are designed with a slim, denim-esque cut in the Outlier 4Season Swiss fabric. The four-way stretch construction gives you full freedom of movement for either cycling, climbing (as the name suggests), or just walking around the city. A particular positive for cycling is the higher cut waist in the back than the front, which prevents your undergarments from flying out when you're on your bike. Where we're based on the west coast, the coming fall means there'll be lots of rain, making the Outlier fabric a positive as it repels dirt, rain, coffee and beer. Like we said, pretty much everything you can throw at them.
With this kit to help keep your head dry, is the perfect option from Ebbets Field Flannels, inspired by the 1936 New York Yankees. Crafted from black wool broadcloth in Seattle, they're an authentic reproduction from the Yankees cap when they played in the Negro National League. These caps feature a satin undervisor, inner taping and authentic felt lettering. Rounding out our New York look is the New York branded Vans sneakers courtesy of Secret Forts, a formerly New York based blog. Taking the Vans T&L Era 59 and embroidering the leather backs with New York, they're a great tribute to an amazing city.
