Saturday Inspiration: Horse Cycles
I've been looking around for a simple road bike since returning to Victoria. I've checked out quite a few from vintage Raleigh's to brand new Canadian made Marinoni's- there are countless options around. Though the idea of having a custom built bike seems a little daunting due to the price attached to the process, it's a special decision that would warrant such an investment. Brooklyn based Horse Cycles crafts incredible custom made bikes and just earlier this year released the collaboration made for The Ace Hotel NYC. This film simply highlights the pure love and passion that Thomas Callahan has for building road bikes.
"STEEL. The frame building process is an intimate one. Here at Horse we almost always work with steel. Steel is the ultimate bike frame material. New steel formulations allow steel frames to rival aluminum in weight. Steel is great for a number of reasons. First, it loses little or none of its mechanical properties over time meaning that it will maintain its integrity for thousands of miles. It is durable, repairable and easily manipulated."
